Best known as one of the breakout designers from Bravo
TV's Project Runway 2, Nick Verreos
quickly
became favored to win. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Nick Verreos spent his childhood
in beautiful Caracas, Venezuela, raised by a Greek-American father and Venezuelan
mother. Nick and his family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and he went on
to attend the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied Political
Science and International Relations and received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Although
Nick enjoyed the study of international politics, he decided to pursue his first
love, fashion. Since childhood, Nick's parents had noticed he had a gift for drawing,
and particularly for fashion. He would sit for hours sketching his mother as she
prepared for her elegant formal diplomatic functions, as well as dreaming up original
costume designs for his great aunt, the famous ballerina, Dame Margot Fonteyn.
After UCLA, Nick attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in
Los Angeles (FIDM), where he graduated Cum Laude from the Advanced Fashion Design
Program. He won several international design competitions, including the prestigious
Suisse du Jeune Talent, where he represented the United States in St. Gallen,
Switzerland.
Nick worked for years in the Los Angeles fashion industry for
companies such as Ecru, Paris Blues, Panacea, Isshu, Swell Store on La Brea, Nallie
and Millie, as well as with Friends costume designer Deborah Mcguire. At
that time, Nick also began designing custom gowns for several Hollywood starlets,
including Sushmita Sen (Miss Universe 1994) and Ali Landry (Miss USA 1996). In
2003, Nick was asked to return to FIDM as a part-time instructor. Born to be on
the "fashion stage," he quickly realized how much he enjoyed teaching
fashion and giving back to the fashion community.
He continues to stay in
the Media spotlight by appearing as a Fashion Expert on shows such as The Hills,
The Simple Life, the WB's new hit show CROWNED, Bravo's Work Out and host of TV
GUIDE's Reality Chat. He was also tapped by People Magazine to be the writer of
People.com's only recap blog for Project Runway. Nick also writes a bi-monthly
column on fashion for Frontiers Magazine, as well as his own weekly blog for Bravotv.com.
Nick most recently signed on with MSN, to be part of the "Glam Squad"
for the launch of their new project entitled Style Studio, where he will be sharing
valuable Fashion tips and advice.
Nick continues to design under his label
NIKOLAKI and has dressed celebrities such as Desperate Housewives Eva Longoria
and Brenda Strong as well as Patricia Arquette and singer Nikka Costa. This year
he was proud to design Nancy O'Dell's dress as host of the Miss Universe Pageant,
as well as Miss California's gown for the Miss USA Pageant. The NIKOLAKI line
has been showcased at Smashbox Los Angeles Fashion Week as well as featured in
publications such as Nylon, WWD, Lucky Magazine, People Magazine and Us Weekly.
